FIC: The Birth of the Vulture, Be the First Challenge

This is my entry for this year's Be the First challenge, which is a challenge to write a fic for a fandom that doesn't have any fic written for it yet. It's the second year for the challenge, which is great inspiration for those of us who have a fandom of one. Sometimes it's disheartening to love a fandom that no one else has heard of, but even if we don't know each other's fandoms, we can encourage each other and maybe find some new fandoms to check out. This year I was really delighted that someone wrote a story for one of my favorite childhood books, the Danny Dunn series.

Check out this year's collection of fics, and maybe you'll find something you like! There are quite a few canons that are easy to check out even if you're not familiar with them like songs, or single books and movies.

And now on to my fic:

The Birth of the Vulture (13681 words) by geri_chan
Chapters: 3/3
Fandom: ハゲタカ | Hagetaka: Road to Rebirth (TV), Japanese Drama
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Washizu Masahiko/Alan Ward
Characters: Washizu Masahiko, Alan Ward
Additional Tags: Pre-Canon, Angst
Summary: Washizu has started a new life in America, but is still haunted by his past. He has resolved to concentrate solely on his work, but his subordinate Alan might have other plans in mind.

I've been obsessed with this show for so long, and Be the First finally gave me the motivation to tackle one of the plot bunnies that's been percolating in my head. Except that I realized the story I've been writing in my head was an epic-length saga that I'd never finish on time, so I decided to work on a "short" pre-canon fic, although as usual, I got a bit carried away and it turned out longer than planned!

I've shipped Washizu and Alan ever since they first appeared on the screen together, so this was my take on how they met and got together in my fanon 'verse. Washizu is so professional and repressed that I figured there's no way that he made the first move, so it had to be Alan who set out to seduce his boss. I also had fun exploring the years in-between his time at Mitsuba as an idealistic young employee and his return to Japan five years later as the cynical corporate vulture.

I really wanted to do more with Alan's background and what turned him into a vulture, but there just wasn't enough time before the deadline to combine his story with Washizu's. But maybe I will give him a prequel story of his own, since I want to play around in the Hagetaka universe a bit more.
