Tribute to Steve Jobs

The authors of the webcomic nemu*nemu (which I recced here) posted a tribute to Steve Jobs, with a very sweet drawing done by artist Kitsy (Audra), a couple of wallpapers created by co-author Kimonostereo (Scott), and a video of Steve's 2005 Stanford Commencement address. Audra also shares her thoughts on how that address inspired her to become a full-time artist.

I'm a Mac user myself, and my first computer was a Blueberry iBook. My good friend liked to complain (good-naturedly) about my fruity laptop and how I only bought it because it was cute, which I admit was mostly true--I am a bit like the mom in the comic Foxtrot by Bill Amend, who ends up buying an "iFruit" computer (Amend's affectionate parody of the iMac) because it's adorable. But I think that was part of Steve's genius, that he created products that weren't just tools, but were cool to look at and fun and easy to use.

The local news station featured some Mac users dusting off their old Macs (going back to the very first models) and reminiscing about Steve and Apple. I don't have anything as classic as the "Lisa" model, but perhaps this weekend I will fire up the old iBook for old time's sake. (Yes, I still have it--although I like my current sleek MacBook Pro, I still have a sentimental fondness for my old Blueberry. ^_^)
