Snupin Santa fic recs
Here are my Snupin Santa fic recs! As with the art recs, please check the individual links for ratings, warnings, and additional info.
My Promising Career in Espionage by westernredcedar: A wonderful first-war story about Remus going undercover to meet the Order's contact, who of course is Severus. The intrigue and suspense are fun to read, but there's also a darker undercurrent of desperation that really drives home the danger and uncertainty of the war. Oh, and there is awesome desperate sex, too!
A Letter to Santa by Snapealina: Teddy writing a letter to Santa, with some help from an initially grumpy Snape.
Just A Fling by azurerosa: A lovely ficlet about Severus insisting to himself that what he has with Remus is just a fling...but is it really?
Endless Entanglement by Nimrod_9: Another ficlet based on the same "just a fling" prompt, that is equally lovely and features a Severus who is just as in denial as the first. There's a beautiful photo that accompanies both fics, that really helps set the mood of the stories.
Herein Lies the Way by Alley_B: "When a confrontation between Severus and Remus leaves them trapped in a mysterious secret passage where their magic is useless, the two must find a way to solve their differences and work together if they’re to get out alive." I love secret passageways, and I love Severus and Remus being forced by circumstances to admit their feelings for each other, so this fic pushed all the right buttons for me!
But the Loom of Life Never Stops by Donna Immaculata: A beautiful though heartbreaking story in which Remus tracks down and confronts Severus after Dumbledore's death. It's rather painful to read, but it's the confrontation that I would have liked to have seen in canon.
Teddy's Assignment by Bonfoi: I loved the glimpse of Pansy Parkinson as a Hogwarts professor, still trying to stir up trouble, and young Teddy standing up for his family in no uncertain terms.
Against the Darkness by shadowycat: A beautiful and bittersweet piece that perfectly captures Severus's longing for Remus, and the comfort that even a passing glance from Remus gives him in these dark times.
Just Fine by Snapealina: I love family fic, and I really love this one, which brings a new addition to the Severus-Remus-Teddy family! Severus finds out that he has a son he didn't know about from a past fling, and young Victor comes to live with them after his mother dies. Naturally, there's a period of painful adjustment, with a resentful and grieving Victor being forced to live with a father who is a stranger to him. Remus does his best to make Victor welcome, while Severus has no idea of how to communicate with his new son. I really felt for both Severus and Victor, but at the same time, had to smile at how alike they were, with their defensive and standoffish personalities.
If That's What It Takes by Furrina: This story is a sequel of sorts to Snegurochka’s "Bend", an amazing though heartbreaking piece about Tonks and how she was badly used by the men of the Order, and then, driven to desperation by her love for Remus, takes on Severus's appearance in order to sleep with him. Furrina's fic deals with the fallout of those events, and is beautifully written. Even though Tonks essentially forced herself on Remus through trickery, I couldn't help but feel sympathy for her after the way she was treated in "Bend," while at the same time, I could also sympathize with Remus being tricked and trapped into a marriage with her. I also loved Severus's unexpected sympathy towards Tonks, which makes sense in hindsight, given that he hasn't exactly been treated kindly by the Order, either. Remus and Tonks's troubled marriage feels a lot more realistic than what we got in canon, but at the same time, I like that Tonks isn't villainized--she made a bad mistake in "Bend," but here, she's at least given the chance to atone for what she did to Remus. All three main characters suffer in this story, and it's painful (in a good way) to read, but I don't think I'm spoiling too much to say that it ends on a hopeful and comforting note for everyone involved. It was really a great story, and expanded on "Bend" beautifully.
The Difference a Fall (or Two) Can Make by azurerosa: This was so much fun to read--Severus as a Quidditch referee, and Remus finding him irresistibly sexy in his Quidditch gear! It's a really funny and sexy romp, and I loved the sweet and sentimental touch at the end.
