Cherish by Tere Michaels

With Thanksgiving coming up, I thought it was the perfect time to rec a Thanksgiving-themed novella by Tere Michaels, whose slash novels I've reviewed earlier here and here.

After the events of the first three books in the Faith, Love, and Devotion series, widowed cop-with-kids Evan and former cop Matt have settled down into a stable and happy relationship. The novella Cherish picks up several years later. Evan's oldest daughter Miranda is now a college student, and although she's made her peace with her dad and Matt's relationship, she has never fully accepted Matt the way the younger kids have. Now she's threatening to marry a boyfriend that she's only been dating for a few months, and Evan freaks out. She agrees to hold off on marriage plans if she can bring her boyfriend and his parents over for Thanksgiving--but neglects to tell the boyfriend and future in-laws that her dad has a male partner. Much drama ensues and many family issues are hashed out on both sides, but somehow they manage to have a happy Thanksgiving in the end. Oh, and even with all the family drama, Matt and Evan still manage to have some sexytimez--some readers complained that there wasn't enough of that, but personally, I loved all the family stuff.

It was a lot of fun to revisit some favorite characters, and it was nice to see Miranda finally deal with her lingering resentment of Matt.
