Snupin Santa/Fic Rec
Hey everyone, just wanted to post a quick reminder to check out the Snupin Santa fest! And it's the final year for the fest, which makes it all the more special. I'm guilty of falling behind myself, having been busy with my Yuletide assigment, but hope to get caught up over the holidays.
I would like to take the time to rec Arionrhod & McKay's A Dream Within a Dream, a story I was really delighted to see since they've written some of my all-time favorite Snupin fics! The summary reads: The strange dreams plaguing Sheriff Rhys Lewis and forensic scientist Seth Snyder are almost as strange as the case that throws them together. Initially, they believe the savage murders plaguing Haywood County are the work of a vicious serial killer, but all the evidence points them toward a more literal monster — one neither of them thought could really exist.

As you can probably guess, Rhys and Seth are reincarnations of Remus and Severus, although neither of them is aware of it until they begin having mysterious dreams about their past lives. The mystery part of the story was suspenseful, and I really enjoyed getting to see Remus and Severus (or rather, Rhys and Seth) get a second chance at love, this time without the pressures of the war or school rivalries to come between them. I also particularly liked the connection that they had in their dreams, which was a nice way to bridge their past and present lives.
It is a long fic (about 31k), which gives the story and characters time to develop (especially since, in a sense, they are new characters, while at the same time still being the Remus and Severus we know and love). Even so, it went by quickly and I loved it so much that I was a little sad when it was over, even though it ended in a wonderfully satisfying way.
