Ura Aibou video
The Aibou J-drama released a set of comedic mini-episodes (known as "Ura Aibou") back in 2008 to coincide with the release of the first Aibou theatrical movie. I found one on YouTube, and though it was unsubbed, managed to understand most of the dialogue. It's pretty easy to follow along and still funny even if you're not familiar with the series, since much of the humor is visual, and it features my favorite character, Detective Itami.
The episode is titled "伊丹の足の下" or "Under Itami's Foot". A rough summary is as follows:
Itami arrives at the forensics lab and calls out to Yonezawa (a regular supporting character who works with the crime scene investigation unit). Yonezawa isn't there, so Itami begins playing with a magnifying glass and spots a 500 yen coin (about 5 US dollars) on the floor. He doesn't see anyone else around, so he triumphantly plants his foot on the coin to claim it.
Then Yonezawa and Itami's partner Detective Serizawa rush in, saying something terrible has happened: they've lost a bomb made by the Red Canary terrorist group. "Idiot!" Itami snaps, slapping Serizawa on the head. "How can you lose a bomb?" Serizawa protests that the bomb is really small, and Yonezawa adds that it looks like a 500 yen coin.
Realization dawns on Itami as he looks down at his foot. "Is it really a bomb?" he wonders.
Yonezawa says something about the bomb that I couldn't quite follow, and Serizawa says it has a "foot switch" (which Itami is thinking that he must have activated). Yonezawa scares the hell out of Itami by turning on a megaphone, which lets out a blast of static.
Itami's other partner Miura arrives, saying they've searched all over headquarters but can't find it. Meanwhile, an increasingly panicked Itami is trying to convey to Serizawa through gestures that he's stepped on the bomb, but Serizawa doesn't get it.
I wasn't able to follow all the dialogue, but judging by the way Itami is looking at the clock, I think the bomb is going to go off soon. At this point, he's so frantic that he's grabbing Serizawa's foot--to try and shift it onto the bomb? Meanwhile, Yonezawa's phone rings, and it's Detective Kameyama (Itami's frenemy and rival) calling to say that Chief Kakuta and Inspector Sugishita found and disarmed the bomb--apparently Itami's coin really was just a coin. Itami faints and collapses, his foot twitching as it remains planted on the coin.
I guess the moral of the story is not to take stuff that doesn't belong to you? ~_^
