Yuletide Letter 2025

Likes: Happy endings (for both romance and gen). I enjoy fluffy fics, but I also enjoy angst as long as the story ends happily. For gen, I enjoy stories about family and friendship. For both romance and gen, I enjoy humor, drama, and hurt/comfort (especially emotional hurt/comfort). For romance, I'm fine with any rating--explicit, steamy fics are great, but I'm also happy if doesn't go beyond a kiss or fade to black. The emotional connection between the characters is more important to me than the level of physical affection.

Do Not Wants: Character death, unhappy endings, noncon, incest (including step/adopted family members), BDSM, underage (meaning under 18) explicit fic, infidelity, threesomes/poly, mpreg.

Listed below are some prompt ideas for my chosen fandoms in case you'd like some suggestions, but I want to stress that they are only suggestions, and you should feel free to follow your muse. If you come up with an idea that's completely different, it will be all the more exciting because it's a surprise, and I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever you write!

Per this Yuletide post about AO3 treat settings, I am open to treats.

Breach Wars Series - Ilona Andrews - Elias McFeron, Adaline Moore: I read both the serialized version on the authors' blog as well as the official release, and I loved it so much! My only complaint was that I wanted more! I really would have liked to have seen Elias and Adaline interact more, and I'm sure we'll get that in the second book, but for now, I would love to read about the two of them for Yuletide. I only requested Elias and Adaline, but absolutely feel free to include Bear or any of the other characters. I definitely ship them, but I'm fine with gen as well.

Some potential prompts if you need them, but absolutely feel free to use your own ideas if you have something different in mind:

- Post-canon fic in which Elias and Adaline work together in a new gate. They're suspicious of each other but have to work together to survive. Trust and perhaps romance ensues?

- An AU in which Elias is able to enter the breach earlier and help Adaline fight the gress and the other creatures there.

- Adaline learning more about how to use her new powers.

- Something involving Elias and his new pet kitty (the red jaguar-like creature he saved in the breach). Perhaps kitty and Bear meet?

Elemental Blessings Series - Sharon Shinn - Corene (Elemental Blessings), Garameno (Elemental Blessings): I love all the books, but I especially loved Jeweled Fire because I really enjoyed all the worldbuilding and political intrigue, and getting to see Corene deal with a new royal court while watching her mature and try to find her own identity outside of a princess of Welce who is no longer needed now that there is a new heir.

And I like Garameno because of his complexity--ambitious and scheming, sometimes a little too clever for his own good, but mostly a good person at heart. I like the banter and verbal sparring between them, and I like that sometimes Corene doesn't like him because he reminds her of Darien, which conversely makes me want to ship them because that potential conflict between them would make for an interesting if not always peaceful marriage.

If you do ship them and want to write explicit fic about them, please age Corene up to eighteen or older. She is seventeen during Jeweled Fire, and it's reasonable that a betrothal and preparation for a royal wedding would take that long anyway. If you prefer not to ship them, gen fic is extremely welcome, and passing mention of the canonical Corene/Foley ship is OK, though I would prefer for it not to be the main focus of the story.

Some suggested prompts if you need them, but of course feel free to come up with your own:

- An AU in which Corene does decide to marry Garameno and stay in Malinqua, or a post Unquiet Land fic in which the Empress wants to further seal the alliance between Malinqua and Welce with a political marriage.

- Garameno is the one who wants the marriage, because he believes Corene can help him to change his country's society and the prejudices that he and Jiramondi experienced. But convincing Corene--not to mention Darien--might take a lot of effort!

- For a gen story, Corene travels back to Malinqua as an ambassador, perhaps to negotiate a new treaty or trade agreement. Or Garameno might travel to Welce on a similar mission or to attend Darien's coronation.

- A side story set during Jeweled Fire--Corene and Garameno discussing their respective countries or their families, or perhaps going on another trip to the Great Market.

葬送のフリーレン | Sousou no Frieren | Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Manga) - Heiter (Frieren Manga): I love Heiter so much--he's probably my favorite character in the series! I love that he's sly, scheming, and irreverent--despite being a priest--but still a good person underneath all that. I love that he enjoys his booze and the way that Frieren calls him "you corrupt priest" and the more playfully antagonist friendship they have in contrast to the way Frieren interacts with Himmel and Eisen. I know I DNWed character death, but since he dies in the first book, you could set it before then, or write an AU in which he lives. I'm also okay with the story being framed as Frieren reminiscing about him after his death. As deaths go, I felt that his was a pretty good one, at a ripe old age and feeling content that Fern would be looked after.

I
have read the manga as far as vol. 13 in the official English translation by Viz, but I am okay with spoilers if you have read farther. I'm also okay if you want to use elements from the anime.

I only requested Heiter, but feel free to include any of the other characters if you want.

Suggested prompts if you need them:

- How did Heiter become a priest: did he feel a calling, or did the local priest notice that he had a talent for clerical magic when he was a child?

- When Frieren is trapped in the past in vol. 13, Grausam is impressed that Heiter is able to shield against his attacks, and says that Heiter must be especially devout to be so favored by the goddess. Is he favored? Does the goddess have a sense of humor and so appreciates the irreverence of her priest?

- An adventure set in the past--maybe Heiter and the others are fighting a demon, or on a lighter note, maybe he's looking for a rare bottle of booze.

- An AU in which Frieren is able to find a spell to extend Heiter's life, and he is able to go adventuring with her and Fern.

Hudson & Rex (TV): Charlie Hudson (Hudson & Rex), Rex (Hudson & Rex), Sarah Truong: See my promo post for what I love about the show, but basically I love the bond between Charlie and Rex, and the romance between Charlie and Sarah, and I think Rex is adorable.

I would love anything about these three--from romance to casefic. And since Season 7 ended with Charlie missing, presumed dead, I would love fix-it fic in which Charlie returns alive and well. I also love the other characters in the show, so if you want to include Joe and/or Jesse or anyone else, please feel free to do so.

Suggested prompts (but feel free to come up with your own):

- Canon style casefic, maybe Charlie and Rex go undercover at a dog show? Rex is dognapped and needs to be rescued, or Charlie is kidnapped, and Sarah and Rex need to find him.

- Charlie and Sarah go on a romantic getaway together with Rex; maybe Charlie proposes?

- Fix-it fic post Season 7 in which Charlie is found alive.

- A story from Rex's POV.

Kate Daniels - Ilona Andrews - Hugh d'Ambray, Elara (Kate Daniels): I never expected to love Hugh so much when he first appeared, although I couldn't help finding him kind of charming (if arrogant). But I was totally won over by his redemption story in Iron and Magic, and now I really want to read more about him and Elara. I am a sucker for the "marriage of convenience becomes a real marriage" trope, so I love the way Hugh and Elara start off their relationship as combative, and I love the way they snark at each other. I also love the way they slowly grow to respect and care for each other as the story develops.

I have
read the entire Kate Daniels series, including Blood Heir, so feel free to refer to any of the characters or events in them. I have also read the excerpts from the as yet unpublished second Hugh novel on the authors' blog, so feel free to include that plot if you want, but that is of course completely optional. Most of them have since been taken down, but the last two chapters posted are still up for now, here and here if you're interested.

Suggested prompts, but feel free to come up with your own:

- By the end of Hugh's novel, they aren't quite a real married couple, but they're well on their way. In the later Kate Daniels books, we see that they are happily married with kids (though they still snark at each other). I would love to see a story about those in-between years, and how their marriage developed.

- Speaking of kids, I'd love to see a story about Hugh and Elara and their family, if you're up for it. Are they biological kids or adopted or a mix of both? I could see them adopting a bunch of orphans! I would love it if one of those adopted kids was Deidre, the orphaned girl rescued by Hugh. She was taken in by her religious fanatic aunt and uncle, and I was really worried about what happened to her, though Elara said she could call for help if they ever mistreated her. Maybe she did? This prompt is of course completely optional since Deirdre and the kids are not in the tags.

- I love the familial relationship that developed between Kate and Hugh, and Julie and Hugh. If you want to write either of them, I'd love to see Julie coming to Uncle Hugh for advice, or Kate visiting Hugh and Elara. Again, this is optional of course.

- Canon-style side story where Hugh and Elara have an adventure, fighting off an enemy or rescuing one of their people or the residents of a neighboring village.

- I love seeing Hugh play Lord of the Manor, so maybe him overseeing a feast or festival with Elara--a nice peaceful day with no monsters or enemies attacking. Or maybe there is an attack and Hugh and Elara have to save the day and the festival?

休日のわるものさん | Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san | Mr. Villain's Day Off (Webcomic): Akatsuki Red, Shogun (Mr. Villain's Day Off): I love the manga and think it's hilarious. I love Shogun/The General's dedication to pandas and enjoying his day off! I also love that for a villain, he is actually a pretty nice and softhearted guy who loves cuddly animals and is kind to children. He says he intends to wipe out humanity, but if it really came down to it, would he actually be able to do it...?

I also love his interactions with Red, and how Red calls him "the nice guy from the Evil League". I ship the two of them, but if you don't, I am totally fine with their canonical frenemy relationship. Oh, and I love how the General/Shogun refers to Red as "little ranger"--a bit condescending, but perhaps also a bit affectionate?

Btw, I've been reading the official Seven Seas manga, but feel free to use either their translation or the Japanese names. In other words, it's fine if you call Mr. Villain either the General or Shogun; same with the Rangers. And feel free to include any other characters that you want, including the other Rangers or aliens from the Evil League, such as Rooney.

For ships, I prefer either Mr. Villain/Red or gen.

Some suggested prompts, but please feel free to use your own ideas if you have something different in mind:

-Earth and the Evil League decide that the war isn't winnable for either side and negotiate a peace treaty, to be sealed with a marriage alliance between the General and Red.

-The zoo is under attack and Red and the General must team up to save the pandas.

-The alien race that built the robot cat arrive to attack Earth, so the Rangers and the Evil League must team up to fight them.

-If you're up for it, maybe a little worldbuilding regarding the Evil League's homeworld? Why are some of the League's relatives in cryosleep back on the home planet? Is it because they're aren't enough resources there, and that's why they are so intent on conquering Earth?

-Red and the General somehow end up celebrating Christmas together. Maybe Santa requests their help? Or Red calls a truce because he wants to give the General a Christmas gift as thanks for helping him all the times that he got lost?

ミステリと言う勿れ | Mystery to Iunakare | Don't Call It Mystery (Manga) - Kunou Totonou (Mystery to Iunakare Manga): I just love the manga and Totonou, and the way his thought process works and the way he's able to see things from a different perspective and unravel whatever mystery presents itself. I also love the way that he blurts out whatever he's thinking without regard for people being offended or taken aback. It often results in people finding him odd, but I like that he doesn't try to change himself to suit others--though I don't think he would know how even if he wanted to.

I have read the manga up through the current official release in English by Seven Seas. And I have seen the TV series and don't mind if you incorporate elements from it, except for Furomitsu's romantic interest in Totonou, as I don't ship the two of them. As for ships...I ship him a bit with Garo, and I'm okay with Totonou/Leica if you ship them. But if you don't see him as being interested in romance at all, I'm fine with that, too.

Suggested prompts, but feel free to come up with your own:

- Totonou solving a canon style mystery. It could be helping the police with a murder or kidnapping, or it could be something less serious, like solving some sort of puzzle game with Leica.

- Something about his past. We know that his grandmother and father were abusive to his mother and probably to him, but when he encounters the adoptive mother and daughter on the train, he says that he has adoptive parents that he is grateful to. What are they like? Are they accepting of Totonou and all his quirks?

- I am intrigued by his sense of morality. He helps the police with cases (not always willingly), but he has no intention of turning Garo in to the police, and he tells the adoptive mother (who probably helped her friend murder the friend's abusive husband) that he won't tell anyone what he suspects. Maybe a story looking at how his sense of justice or fairness contrasts with that of the detectives?

- I'm also interested in his potential friendship with Garo, in spite of Garo being a fugitive and sending him a severed hand in the mail! Still, I can sympathize, since Garo is one of the few people who seems to understand him. What happens when they are finally reunited, and
will he help Garo on his quest to find out the truth behind his sister's death?

- Maybe there is no mystery to solve, and Totonou finally gets to cook and eat his curry in peace.

Starter Villain - John Scalzi - Charlie Fitzer (Starter Villain), Seventy-three (Starter Villain): You can see my promo post for what I love about the book, but basically I love the humor and the foul-mouthed, unionized dolphins, and I really enjoyed Charlie's negotiations with Seventy-three, so I'd love to see more of that. I loved all the other characters as well, so feel free to include Mathilda and/or Hera and/or any other character from the book if you wish.

Some suggested but completely optional prompts:

- Post-canon fic in which Charlie is called on to negotiate with the dolphins again--maybe they're demanding more benefits like maternity/paternity leave or hazard pay (though I'm not sure what kind of payment they would want). Or Seventy-three becomes a proud papa now that the dolphins are allowed to breed (perhaps Sixty-five is the mother?), and decides to introduce his offspring to Charlie.

- Even though Charlie has left the villain business, one of Uncle Jake's enemies hasn't gotten the message and kidnaps him. Maybe he's being held on a boat, and Seventy-three (perhaps with the other dolphins) comes to rescue him.

- If you want to set the story during the novel, maybe an expanded negotiation scene with Charlie and Seventy-three? Or really, any kind of conversation between the two would be welcome!
