30-Day Fanfic Writing Meme, Day 1 + National Blog Posting Month
1. How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
I originally told
And what pulled me in and kept me in fandom is pretty much the same as you--finding a sense of community among like-minded people, except that I started off with Snupin instead of Snucius (though I do like Lucius, too *snuggles him*).
Which is true for Snupin, but I almost forgot that the first fandom I actually wrote for was Petshop of Horrors. I fell in love with the anime and joined the Petshop_of_Horrors Yahoo Group. At some point, someone either posted or linked to a Petshop fanfic, and I got bitten by my very first plot bunny, which eventually turned into the story Revenge. It was primarily an excuse for me to finally get Leon and Count D together--they have tons of UST in the manga, but their relationship never quite crosses the line from friendship over to romance. There was some debate over whether we should allow fanfic to be posted on the mailing list, as it was (and still is) primarily a discussion group, so a handful of us ended up circulating our fics through e-mail to each other. Eventually I found the Pet Shop of Horrors Fanfiction Yahoo Group and started posting there. Now, of course, I post my fics on LJ and IJ, though I still cross-post to the Yahoo Group, which reminds that I should go post my new Halloween fic there.
Petshop started off with a relatively small following--even at its height, the manga sold respectably but was never a bestseller. Maybe because the fandom was so small, it felt pretty close-knit in the early days, not unlike Snupin. The first manga series completed its run in the US several years ago and the Yahoo Groups are almost inactive, but people still post there every now and then, and the Petshop drabble and fanfic communities are a little quiet but still active on LJ. Petshop is my first love, but I've been neglecting it a bit for Snupin and Haru, so I was happy when I got bitten by a plot bunny that resulted in the above-mentioned Halloween fic.

I find it incredibly lovely/fantastic/cute that your Yahoo group for Petshop is still going strong, what with all the Faecesbook possibilities...

I am sort of amazed that the Yahoo Group is still going, which is cool. I was willing to move over to LJ and IJ, and would move over to DW if I have to, but I absolutely refuse to get a Facebook account. I hear a lot about security/privacy problems associated with FB, and I have too many RL family and friends on there that I don't want stumbling across my fandom identity.

but it's been awhile since i checked for updates. Your Writing Meme is a great idea, will you do it this year too? :)
Re: i had afew recs
I hadn't thought about doing the writing meme again, but maybe it might be fun to make it a yearly thing.
