Well, I mostly made it through two months of blog posting, although I missed a couple of days towards the end of the year. Happy New Year to everyone, and thanks to [personal profile] lore  for inspiring me to keep up with the (almost) daily posting in December!

And now that Yuletide Reveals are over, I can announce the fic that I wrote for Yuletide:

Partners in Death (9349 words) by geri_chan
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: In Death - J. D. Robb
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Eve Dallas, Nixie Swisher, Sean Lannigan
Additional Tags: Mystery, Post-Canon
Summary: A teenage boy has been charged with murder, but Nixie Swisher and Sean Lannigan are convinced that he's innocent. Eve gives them a chance to prove their case.

I was the one who nominated Nixie as a character, not expecting anyone else to request her, since she is a major character in only one book (Survivor in Death), although she does have a cameo appearance in one of the later novels. So I was surprised but delighted to find out that someone else loved her and wanted fic about her, too!

OK, sorry for the bad pun--I couldn't resist! A little rant about Sirius follows...

I was listening to the recent Alohomora podcast episode about Sirius (Episode 230) plus the recap episode (which is linked on the Episode 231 page). There was a lot of debate about Sirius, with strong feelings from both fans and anti-fans, about whether he was redeemable and whether he should be forgiven for the Shrieking Shack prank. The consensus among the hosts in the recap, along with many of the fans, was basically, "Teenagers do dumb things because they don't think before they act, but they grow out of it, and the dumb things they did shouldn't be held against them for the rest of their life." (To be fair, they say that the bullying and the prank are not OK, but are trying to make the point that Sirius isn't irredeemable.)

I recently came across a meme about "Characters you can imagine in fandom," which then got me to musing about how the Harudaki characters might do fandom:

Yuletide reveals are out so now I can announce the fic that I wrote this year, along with my usual meta rambling about writing the story:

Letters from Nimona (6873 words) by geri_chan
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Nimona (Webcomic)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ballister Blackheart/Ambrosius Goldenloin
Characters: Ballister Blackheart, Ambrosius Goldenloin, Nimona
Additional Tags: Families of Choice, Post-Canon, Epistolary
Summary: Ballister begins receiving letters from Nimona as the TV news coincidentally--or not so coincidentally--airs reports about shark attacks and abominable snowman sightings.

Notes: Written for Tyleet. Thank you very much to strix_alba, who betaed the story for me. Any mistakes remaining are all my own.

I finished importing all my old Ink Stained Fingers stories (all Snupin) to the new A03 collection. Given that they're pretty old and were mostly jossed by canon years ago, I wasn't really expecting any comments or kudos on them, but was pleasantly surprised to see a small but steady stream of kudos and a couple of comments. I don't recognize most of the names of the people leaving kudos/comments, so I'm not sure where all the new readers are coming from. Maybe people just checking out whatever new HP and/or Snupin fics that were recently uploaded? Anyway, it is nice to see people enjoying my old Always series stories even though they're extremely AU now.

Reveals are now official, so here is the fic I wrote for Yuletide, plus some rambling thoughts about the writing process:

All Through the Night (and Through the Years) (8831 words) by geri_chan
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Troubleshooters Inc. - Suzanne Brockmann
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jules Cassidy/Robin Chadwick
Characters: Jules Cassidy, Robin Chadwick Cassidy, Roger "Sam" Starrett, Alyssa Locke
Summary: Sam, Alyssa, and their kids throw a baby shower for Jules and Robin, who reminisce about past adventures as they await the birth of their daughter.

Notes: Writen for Frostfire. Also, much thanks to Lawless523 for betaing the story. Any remaining mistakes are mine, not hers.

A few more thoughts on the "Violence Lyric" chapter from the latest Harudaki tankoban...

Cut for mild spoilers... )
geri_chan: (Onozuka)
I'm sooooo happy! My CD Japan box arrived in the mail yesterday, and the Aibou stuff looks great--the X-Day movie has a bonus disc and booklet, and the Itami book is filled with lots of color photos of my favorite character, plus lots of info about him and interviews with the actor. All in Japanese of course, which makes it rather daunting, but I will try and take a stab at translating some of it when I have more time.

But what I'm over the moon about is the tankobon for Haru wo Daiteita Alive 1! It has the "Love Tanker" story about Yukihito working behind-the-scenes in show business, and Katou dealing with PTSD from his experience during the earthquake in vol. 14. And it also has the "Timeshare" story where Iwaki and Katou go to Hawaii on vacation. (Both of these were previously discussed on the Youka Nitta LJ comm.) But it's the third chapter, "Violence Lyric," that makes me OMG SO HAPPY because it features Onozuka working with Katou in the Nobunaga drama!

geri_chan: (Hagetaka - Alan)
I'm still hooked on Hagetaka, so I thought I'd share a couple of links: an article/review about the series, and a music video of clips set to Foo Fighters' "Best of You". The clips all seem to be from the first and maybe the second episode, so the video gives a nice overview without giving away too many spoilers. Washizu is the guy with the glasses (I made an icon for him on my IJ cross-post), though unfortunately there are no shots of Alan, except for a brief glimpse of his back as he and Washizu walk away from the reporter who's being restrained by security guards.

With the release of the second SuBLime omnibus of Embracing Love, I decided to do another comparison between the new version and the old BeBeautiful editions. I did notice that there seem to be less differences/possible mistakes this time around.

Fluff:
45. Favorite fluff fic?

Tough question, but I would probably pick Cub by [livejournal.com profile] drachenmina because baby Teddy bonding with Snape is so adorable and funny, with Snape using a cauldron as a playpen, along with Teddy's cries of "Ook!" ^_^

So this completes the Fanfic Tropes Meme and National Blog Posting Month (which technically ended yesterday). And I know I say this every year, but I hope to keep up the momentum and post more frequently, if not necessarily every day. (I do want to write up reviews of Pacific Rim and Thor: The Dark World, both of which I watched recently, so hopefully I'll get those up soon.)

Fluff:
44. How fluffy is too fluffy?

Honestly, I love fluff, so it's hard for fic to be too fluffy for me. I guess the only time it would be too fluffy is when a normally unemotional or snarky character acts excessively sweet without an explanation, but I think that's more an issue of the character being OOC, as mentioned in the discussion for question #42.
geri_chan: (Snupin_Always by karasu_hime)
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who live in the U.S.!

Fluff:
43. Do you like fluff on its own or in conjunction with other elements (angst, sex, etc.)

I like fluff on its own, but I especially like it when it's combined with a little angst. Having the characters suffer a bit beforehand somehow makes the fluffy happy ending all the more satisfying for me! Quite a few of my Snupin fics follow this pattern.

Fluff:
40. Do you like fluff?

Yes, I do! Which may seem a little strange because I also like angst, but on the other hand, I like angst that eventually has a happy ending, so angst + fluff can be a good combination. But I also like reading fluff on its own--usually short one-shots. Sometimes in a canon where the characters suffer a lot, it's comforting to read fluffy fic where they just get to be happy.

More specifics to follow in later questions.
