Fanfic Tropes Meme (#37)
AU:
37. How do you feel about parent!fics/lovechildren? How about mpreg?
I'm not fond of mpreg--I just can't wrap my head around the biological impossibility of it, even in a magical setting, although as always, there are a few great stories that can make me overcome my usual dislikes.
I do like parent!fics--I'm partial to Lupin and Snape raising Teddy or an adopted child/children in HP fics. In fact, I have a list of Teddy fic and art recs that I did for the lupin_snape comm. I also did a previous essay/rec list titled Snupin and Family, in which I discuss my preference for fics about Snape and Lupin raising adopted children, although later I did come to enjoy Teddy stories as well.
I've never heard of a "lovechildren" trope--I'm guessing it refers to a character unexpectedly discovering that they have a child from a past affair? If so, I don't dislike it, though it's not a favorite, either. One of the stories linked in the above essay does cover this trope: Ignatia by severity_softly, in which Lupin adopts a war orphan who turns out to be Snape's daughter.
I've written several Snupin-raising-Teddy fics; in addition to the ones on the Teddy rec list, I've since written:
Awakening
Mother's Day (Part 1, Part 2)
Love/Not Love (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)
What I Did on My Summer Vacation byTeddy Theodore Lupin
I've also written a Petshop of Horrors story called Daiki, in which Leon and D have a biological child, although it's technically not mpreg, since the child is born via a plant surrogate--which I know sounds really weird if you haven't read the manga series, but it makes sense, trust me. It's also a crossover fic the Dolls manga by Yumiko Kawahara, so this actually would apply to the previous meme question about crossovers.
