30-Day Fanfic Writing Meme, Day 19
19. When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
It depends. Sometimes a bunny will be so brain-devouring that I have to sit down and write it straight away, like Snupin Meme or Betrayed (Petshop of Horrors). Sometimes when it's a bunny revolving around a holiday, like my Haru fic Valentine's Day Surprise, or my Petshop fic Trick or Treat, I obviously want to get to work on it right away so that I can get it done in time for the holiday that it's about (although I often end up running a bit late).
Other times, I get a bunny but can't start working on it right away because I'm busy with something else, or because the bunny is for an idea that takes place in the future of the series that I'm currently working on. Snapelike and I got into a long, meta-ish discussion about Mochimune, Miyasaka, and Onozuka in the comments of her "Masks, Removed" fic, and I got bunnied with the idea of Kikuchi, Onozuka, Miyasaka, and Mochimune all going out on a double date, and also to have Onozuka and Miyasaka working together on a movie directed by Mochimune. But I couldn't do any of that at the time because in my "Comeback" series, Miyasaka hadn't yet met Mochimune, and I was planning to have Kikuchi and Onozuka star in Director Kitamura's movie, so I needed to finish that whole story arc before I could really get started on the Mochimune/Miyasaka plot bunny. The lengthy time period between then and now allowed me to set up some hints for that storyline, and I hope to be working on it in the near future. (Although I've signed up for the Yuletide fic exchange fest, so the plot bunny will probably have to remain on hold until after that.)
So, to answer the second half of the question, I have so many plot bunnies that I usually have to file them away for future reference. Sometimes I write them down, but often I just keep them in my head and then forget about them, and then suddenly remember them again when I'm re-reading an old fic and happen to see the comments, and I say, "Oh yeah, I forgot all about that plot bunny!" Since I most often get bunnied from reader feedback comments on my own fics (and sometimes from other people's fics, but more on that tomorrow), I've started going through all the old comments on my fics to record the plot bunnies so that I'll be able to keep track of them better.

*grins*
Yeah, our discussions are bunny-magnets. Horrible. :D

And wait for the next day's meme--it's all about the bunnies that your and Bronze Ribbons fics have inflicted on me!

And, yeah, the chance is that we're going to write for each other. I can think of bigger disasters than that... *clings*
