30-Day Fanfic Writing Meme, Day 30

30. Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!

It's really hard to pick just one, but I guess I will say that it's my Snupin fic Always (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6). I'd written a couple of short fics previously, but this was first time I really started writing Snupin in-depth, and it ended up turning into a very long ongoing AU series, even expanding to include side stories about supporting characters. But I guess what I like most about the story was the flashback section that focused on Snape and Lupin's schoolboy days at Hogwarts, and that seems to be the favorite part for most of my readers as well. I loved being able to portray a more innocent side to the young Snape and Lupin before the Shrieking Shack incident tore them apart. One of my favorite all-time scenes to write was the snowball fight they had during the winter break, when they were able to just have fun and act like normal kids without having to worry about hiding their relationship from the other Marauders, who had gone home for the holidays.

And now I'm going to cheat a bit by listing my favorite fics in my other two fandoms. ^_^

For Petshop of Horrors, I guess my favorite fic would be Daiki because I really enjoyed portraying Leon and D not just becoming a couple, but settling down together and raising a family. Something about seeing my favorite characters in happy domesticity makes me feel all warm and fluffy inside, which is probably why Snupin-raising-Teddy fics appeal to me, too.

That said, I find it really hard to picture Kikuchi and Onozuka settling down and having kids together in my Haru fics! Neither of them really seems like the paternal type to me, although I could see Kikuchi being an indulgent uncle to his brother's (as yet hypothetical) children--taking them out for a few hours to see a movie and eat junk food that their parents wouldn't normally allow, then giving them back to his brother while they're still on a sugar rush. As for Onozuka, while he seems to enjoy looking after Miyasaka (who is in some ways like a big kid), I'd be afraid to inflict his scheming and sadistic (albeit affectionate and mostly well-meaning) nature on a child. I could maybe see Iwaki and Katou raising a child in the future, although I don't think that Katou's quite ready to share Iwaki with another person just yet.

Wow, I kind of went off a tangent there! Anyway, getting back to my favorite Haru fic...again, it's really hard to pick just one, but I guess it's probably Unmasked because I really enjoyed delving into Onozuka's background and stripping away his masks to get a look at the real Onozuka. (By "real," I mean my fanon invention, of course, since he's only a minor character in canon.) And it's also my favorite because this is the story where Kikuchi and Onozuka finally got serious and became a real couple, and because I enjoyed writing about Onozuka's friendships with Katou, Miyasaka, and Iwaki. It is very clear in the manga that Onozuka cares a lot about Katou and Miyasaka, and that's part of what fascinates me about him--his deviousness and scheming would make him an unpleasant character if it was done out of malice or merely on a whim, but since he's attempting to reconcile two estranged friends, it makes him a good deal more complex and sympathetic.

Well, I made it through National Blog Posting Month and posted for 30 days straight--yay! ^_^ This meme was a lot of fun, and I had a good time revisiting some of my old fics and writing some meta about my favorite characters. I had hoped to post some manga reviews as well, but I'll try to get to them in December.

Ah, well... you know precisely how much I love your Haru fics, and Unmasked was a lovely aspect of the full Onozuka picture.

Congrats on making the month - I really liked this meme, both writing it, and reading your take. <3

Thanks, I did cut it a bit close on some days by posting late at night, but I'm happy that I made it through the month!

The meme was lots of fun, and it was helpful in reminding me about some of the old plot bunnies I'd forgotten about (I'm compiling a list for future reference). So thanks to you (and Elfflame) for inspiring me! *hugs*
