Snapedom essay: Snape and Unconditional Love

Check out the cool banner I received for my essay on [community profile] snapedom (and also crossposted on IJ) about Snape and unconditional love. (I love young Snape!) The topic of the essay was "who loves Snape?" and "whom does Snape love?" My answer was (in canon at least) only Lily for certain. Possibly his family, but we don't know enough about them to be sure. However, I did argue that there is no evidence of anyone, including Lily, loving him unconditionally, as Harry was loved by his parents, and is loved by his friends. Which is incredibly sad, and probably the reason why he appears to be so emotionally stunted even as an adult.

Part of the essay dealt with Snape's relationship with Dumbledore, which is actually the March discussion topic on Snapedom, so maybe I'll incorporate my ideas into a separate essay on that subject. I know that I was really disillusioned with Dumbledore's portrayal in Deathly Hallows, and how he didn't have the close friend/mentor type of relationship with Snape that I had imagined. The "You disgust me line!" still makes me feel angry and sad for Snape. (Btw, Snapedom is moving over to IJ, so future essays will be posted there instead of here on LJ.)

Of course, we can give Snape plenty of lovin' in fanfiction, and I must admit, after reading DH, I take even more pleasure in giving Snape all the love he deserves!
