Fanfic Tropes Meme (#24-27)
Porn:
24. Do you have any dirty kinks that you’re ashamed of?
25. Any kinks that you’d love to try in real life?
26. Any kinks that you don’t want to try in real life (but are still hot in a fanfic)?
I'm going to skip these, since I don't really feel comfortable discussing them in a public blog, and I think most of you guys are probably more interested in my characters' fictional love lives, anyway. ;-) So moving on to the next question...
27. Rough sex or gentle sex?
Both, though I guess most of the scenes I read and write fall somewhere in the middle. I like a little variety, depending on what the mood of the story calls for: rough, desperate sex when Snape and Lupin are stealing a few moments alone between missions for the Death Eaters and the Order; and alternately, gentle, comforting sex when Snape needs reassurance that he's still deserving of love in spite of the things he's done with the Death Eaters (or maybe it's Lupin who needs reassuring that he's loved in spite of turning into a beast once every month).
"Variety" is the key word, since even the hottest sex scenes can get boring if you keep reading the same one over and over. For example, it was really hot the first few times that Eve and Roarke had passionate, mind-blowing, tear-your-clothes-off sex in the In Death novels. However, the author tends to repeat variations of that scenario in each novel, and after awhile, I started to skim over the sex scenes to get back to the main plot. It makes a nice change and contrast when Eve and Roarke have more tender, gentle, and reassuring sex, which happens occasionally but not nearly often enough for my tastes.
Maybe because it's because fictional sex (whether in fanfic or professionally written novels) tends to be perfect, that I kind of like it when it isn't: slightly awkward first-time sex when a couple is still trying to figure out how to best please each other, or a hasty but still pleasurable quickie when the characters are too busy with work (or whatever) for the mind-blowing, tear-your-clothes-off type of sex. (I enjoy writing these kinds of scenes for Kikuchi and Onozuka, for some reason, although they get plenty of the mind-blowing variety as well.)
