Easter in Japan

Random bit of Japanese trivia...

I had no idea that the Japanese celebrated Easter (even in a non-religious bunnies and candy sense), but I happened to come across an article about these adorable chick-shaped donuts that Krispy Kreme was selling as a holiday special--almost too cute to eat!

Other Western holidays in Japan:

Valentine's Day, is of course a big deal in Japan, although there women give chocolate to men. (The men reciprocate on White Day in March.) Valentine's Day Surprise is my Haru take on the subject, although in that case, it's guys giving each other chocolate. ^_^

Christmas is considered a romantic holiday for couples, although judging by manga and dramas, little kids enjoy getting presents from "Santa". As mentioned in another of my Haru fics, Kentucky Fried Christmas, eating fried chicken and Christmas cake is kind of a Christmas tradition in Japan. I remember seeing an actual documentary in Japan where a convenience store sold many orders of fried chicken on Christmas Eve. You can also see a fried chicken Christmas dinner in the movie Departures.

Halloween, I believe, is not a major holiday, but is still well known enough to have a Halloween party storyline in the Yotsuba manga, and I seem to recall some Halloween stuff going on in the background of the Cowboy Bebop movie.

April Fool's Day is a surprisingly big deal, as mentioned in this earlier post, with a number of websites putting up prank April Fool's pages.
