Snapedom essay: Snape's Family
Showing off my latest Snapedom banner for my essay on Snape's Family! Until Book 6 came out, I believed that Snape was a pureblood, and he still is in my Always series fics, but for the essay, I tried to imagine what canon Snape's family might be like. I speculated a bit about the Princes--did they disown Eileen for marrying a Muggle and cut off contact with her, much like Sirius and his family? That seems likely, but it also seems possible that they might have had some contact with Severus and passed on to him a contempt of Muggles that was reinforced by his own dislike of his father. I also hypothesized that Snape had little contact with his Muggle relatives, apart from his father, and cut himself off from the Muggle world as soon as he reached adulthood.
June's challenge topic is somewhat related: "Severus and the Muggle World". It's already generated some interesting essays on the community, including speculation about Snape's childhood in the Muggle world, and several discussions about prejudice against Muggles in the wizarding world. Hopefully I'll have time to write something up myself--the month seems to be going by a lot quicker than I thought it would! I'm nearly done with my first Summer Fest fic, though, so it has been a productive month for me. ^_^
Getting back to my May essay, I ended with some discussion about how Snape's family is portrayed in fanfiction, including a shameless plug for Bell Dancer, my almost-canon (well, as close as I've managed to get) story that has a pretty in-depth look at Snape's relationship with Eileen and Tobias before it moves on to the Snupin-y part.
