Saving Face
Mar. 7th, 2013 11:38 pmI'm on a roll with the movie reviews!
I just finished watching Saving Face, a Chinese-American romance/comedy/drama that was really wonderful--funny and sweet and heartwarming, leavened with a touch of angst. Wilhelmina is a young surgeon with a promising career--and a widowed mother who keeps trying to set her up with a nice Chinese boy. The matchmaking attempts are doomed to failure since Wil is gay, although she's too afraid to come out to her conservative Chinese family. But soon enough, Ma has problems of her own: she's pregnant and refuses to name the father, and her own father kicks her out of the house "until she remarries or proves Immaculate Conception."
( Mild spoilers below the cut... )
