The Sentinel rewatch
Nov. 6th, 2014 10:30 amI remember watching and enjoying The Sentinel tv show back when it first aired, but didn't stumble across the slash fandom for it until the series had ended. Recently there was a Sentinel Rewatch meme started to (anonymously) watch and discuss the series from the start, one episode at a time. I've fallen a bit behind (I still have to watch last week's episode), but I'm really enjoying it--what a blast from the past! There are a lot of logic holes at times, but I'm not expecting a huge amount of realism, given the fantasy/sci-fi nature of the premise (Jim's heightened senses), and the main actors have great chemistry and are a lot of fun to watch. It's hilarious now, seeing how hugely slashy the show is--how did I miss that the first time around? It's also funny to see how dated it looks now in the 2000s--I'd forgotten that pagers were a thing back then, along with Jim's brick-sized car phone. It's also fun to see which now-famous actors pop up in guest roles, like Kelly Hu playing one of Blair's girlfriends, or Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet from Lost) playing a reporter.
My favorite episode so far is episode 10 from Season One, "Vow of Silence," in which Jim and Blair go to a retreat at a monastery for some R&R (Blair's idea, not Jim's), and of course someone gets murdered while they're there.
If you were a Sentinel fan back in the day, check it out and join in the fun! Or if it's new to you, join in and see what all the fuss was about!
