Film about Chiune Sugihara
Nov. 25th, 2015 06:42 pmI was watching the Fuji TV news on the local foreign language TV station today, as I often do when I have time because even though it's unsubtitled, it's good practice for testing my Japanese language comprehension. I was only halfway paying attention during the entertainment segment when I happened to hear the name "Sugihara" mentioned, and I looked up and realized that they were talking about a new film about Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese diplomat I wrote about in this previous post. What a coincidence!
With a quick search, I was able to find an online article in English that has some information about the movie, and about the real-life Sugihara. It will star Toshiaki Karasawa, one of my favorite actors, as Sugihara. In another odd coincidence, Karasawa starred in the lead role of the NHK Taiga drama Toshiie to Matsu back in 2002, and one of his co-stars, Takashi Sorimachi, as mentioned in my previous post, played Sugihara in the TV movie 6,000 Visas for Life.
