nemu*nemu Kickstarter project
Dec. 21st, 2011 02:28 pmThe authors of the adorable webcomic nemu*nemu are trying to raise money via Kickstarter to print their fifth collection in color. $10,000 is the goal, with slightly less than $3,000 left to go, but I think it went up significantly in the last couple of days (from $6,000-something) so there's still time for them to make it.
I recced it here a few years ago, but to recap briefly, it's about two middle school girls (Kana and Ani) and their two stuffed puppies (Nemu and Anpan) who magically come to life. It's set in an unnamed place that resembles both Japan (the girls watch sentai shows like "Henshin Rider") and Hawaii (the story makes use of local Hawaiian slang like "botcha" for "bath"; the authors live in Hawaii). If I had to describe it, I'd say that it's sort of like Yotsuba crossed with Calvin and Hobbes: the humorous slice-of-life tone of Yotsuba (and manga-style drawings) mixed with the theme of stuffed animals coming to life. It's really sweet without being cloyingly so, and very funny at the same time.
A very worthy project, and I'd like to see them get their book published, so if you're a fan of nemu*nemu, please support them! If you can't spare much money, they're accepting pledges as low as $1, so every little bit helps! And of course there are incentives, ranging from digital wallpaper sets to autographed copies of the books to a special Henshin Rider fanclub package.
ETA 12/23/11: The goal of $10,000 was surpassed, with 3 days still left to go--yay! ^_^ Incentive packages are still available to anyone who wants to contribute.
