The day of the audition arrived, and Onozuka felt confident about his chances. He had to admit that he had a slightly unfair advantage, since he'd been given a copy of the entire script by Kikuchi, while the other actors had received only a synopsis of the story and the scenes that they would be reading. He didn't feel guilty, though, since none of the others would scruple to decline a script if one should happen to come their way. In fact, it was entirely possible that one or two of his rivals were well-connected enough to have also gotten a copy of the full script on their own.

However, Onozuka still had the additional advantage of his very real chemistry with Kikuchi, thanks to their secret affair. But he didn't rest on his laurels; he had read the script carefully, many times over until he felt that he had a good understanding of the character. Eisuke was a shy, sheltered young man who was both frightened and intrigued by the visions in his dreams, and thanks to those dreams, already half-infatuated with Ryotaro when they finally met in person.

And Onozuka's preparations didn't stop with the script--he had also watched all of Kitamura's old movies, or rather, re-watched them, since he had already seen them when they'd first come out. He'd also read a couple of Mizutani-sensei's novels to get a better overall view of what the director and writer might expect from him as an actor.

And of course there was also the fact that he had been able to rehearse his scenes in advance with Kikuchi. They had, of course, "rehearsed" the big love scene between Ryotaro and Eisuke many times, despite Kikuchi's initial claim that they should "wait and see how Kitamura wants to choreograph it".

"But you're the expert on gay sex," Onozuka had pointed out slyly. "I'm pretty sure that Kitamura is straight, so he'll probably defer to your expertise." Kikuchi had laughed and agreed, and they had rehearsed the scene several times over the past week, in various positions. Onozuka smiled at the memory; Kikuchi was a very skilled and inventive lover. Kikuchi liked to joke about being an old man, but being older obviously translated into being more experienced, at least in Kikuchi's case, and that was all to the good as far as Onozuka was concerned.

The day after the first time Kikuchi had fucked him, Onozuka had still been too sore to want to repeat the experience right away, so Kikuchi had suggested that Onozuka do him instead, and Onozuka had been more than happy to oblige. He had loved the sensation of being inside Kikuchi, and it had been a heady experience to feel Kikuchi writhing beneath him, pushing up into his thrusts, and to hear Kikuchi moaning unabashedly in pleasure.

The experience had been briefer than he would have liked, though. He'd wanted to hold out and tease Kikuchi as Kikuchi had teased him, but when Kikuchi--deliberately, Onozuka was sure--had tightened his muscles, giving Onozuka's cock an exquisite little squeeze, he'd found himself coming before he'd realized what was happening.

Kikuchi had grinned at him wickedly, and Onozuka had groaned and retorted, "Don't look so damned smug. That wasn't really in your best interest, because you made me come before you had a chance to get off."

"There's more than one way to get off," Kikuchi had purred, wrapping his hand around his cock. And he had looked so hot jerking off, his gaze meeting Onozuka's, completely unselfconscious and unashamed, that Onozuka had found himself placing his hand over Kikuchi's and helping to bring his recalcitrant lover to climax.

Onozuka smiled at the memory. He really shouldn't reward Kikuchi for his mischievous behavior, but the man was irresistible. Just one of his sly, sexy smiles was enough to make Onozuka hard...

A sharp pounding on the door jolted Onozuka out of his daydreams. "Hey, Fujimoto-san is here, Onozuka!" Miyasaka shouted. "Get a move on!"

"All right, I'm coming!" Onozuka called out. "Don't get your panties in a bunch!"

Miyasaka muttered something indecipherable but no doubt rude, while Onozuka grabbed his official copy of the scene selections. Since he and Miyasaka lived together and worked for the same agency, Fujimoto had agreed to drive them both to the audition site, where Miyasaka's manager would meet them. Fujimoto had said that it would be more efficient than having both managers make separate trips to pick them up--he was very big on efficiency.

Onozuka had been happy to share a ride with his friend and roommate, but was soon regretting that decision once they were in the car with Fujimoto.

"Are you even prepared for this audition?" Miyasaka demanded. "I know that you want to spend time with your girlfriend, but you have to think about your career, too."

"Do you have a girlfriend?" Fujimoto asked his client, sounding startled. Then he frowned thoughtfully, perhaps remembering the time that Onozuka had been upset with him for interrupting his "dinner with a friend".

"No, I do not have a girlfriend," Onozuka sighed wearily. "I keep telling Miyasaka that, but he doesn't believe me."

"Then where have you been spending your nights?" Miyasaka asked skeptically. "I've barely seen you at home lately! You stay out all night, and sometimes don't come home until the next morning."

He sounded a bit sullen, and Onozuka grinned. "Aw, are you jealous, Miya-chan? I didn't know that you cared!"

"Hey, if you want to blow the audition, that's fine," Miyasaka said huffily. "It just means that I'll have a better chance of getting the role."

"What are you talking about, you idiot?" Onozuka snapped, whacking Miyasaka on the back of the head, while privately thinking that the only thing he intended to blow was Kikuchi. That thought restored his good mood and made him smile a little.

"Ow!" Miyasaka whined.

"I've been staying away from the apartment out of consideration for you," Onozuka said virtuously. "It's hard for you to rehearse while I'm around, right? And it's distracting for me to hear you reading your lines while I'm trying to practice the same scene. So I've been spending most of my time at a friend's place to prepare for the audition."

Technically, this was true, since he had been rehearsing his scenes at Kikuchi's apartment. And if they also happened to have a lot of sex, well, it was a love story, after all, so that just helped to set the right atmosphere. There was enough sincerity in his voice to convince Fujimoto, who nodded approvingly, although Miyasaka was still gazing at Onozuka suspiciously.

"I knew that you were too sensible to let a woman distract you from your work," Fujimoto said, sounding relieved. "Not that there's anything wrong with having a social life, as long as you keep it in perspective."

"I have no time for a girlfriend," Onozuka replied, waving off the suggestion. "I want to be able to focus all my attention on this movie. Besides, my fans prefer me to remain single, right?"

"But you were gone a lot even before we learned about the audition," Miyasaka pointed out. "You were coming home late every night, and there was the weekend you flew out to Komatsu..."

"What, are we married or something?" Onozuka retorted irritably. "Are your feelings hurt because I don't come home for dinner every night? I was busy with my series, and I do have other friends besides you. I like to go out drinking with them once in awhile."

"Just out of curiosity, what were you doing in Komatsu?" Fujimoto asked, his voice carefully bland and casual.

"I went to see an old friend about a personal matter," Onozuka replied. He had learned long ago that the most convincing way to lie was to selectively shade and edit the truth. His statement was sort of true, after all: Takumi could be considered a friend, since Onozuka's father had treated Takumi more like family than an employee, and the arranged marriage was certainly a personal matter. Komatsu had been only a stopping point on the way to his hometown of Kanazawa, but Fujimoto and Miyasaka didn't need to know that.

"What kind of personal matter?" Miyasaka persisted.

"If I told you, then it wouldn't be personal anymore, now would it?" Onozuka pointed out. "I was merely giving some advice to a friend who was in a difficult situation--a male friend, I should add. I can't say anything more than that without betraying his confidence."

"You said you went there for work," Miyasaka reminded him.

"Because you're so nosy, and I didn't want to have to explain myself to you," Onozuka shot back. "I think we've been living together too long; you're like a jealous wife wanting to track her husband's every move."

Miyasaka looked insulted and opened his mouth to argue further, but Fujimoto quickly intervened. "Okay, you two, knock it off!" he ordered. "You need to concentrate on your performance today, not your petty arguments!"

"They're not petty," Miyasaka muttered sulkily, determined to have the last word, but he subsided after that. Onozuka told himself that he wouldn't feel guilty if Miyasaka was thrown off-balance at the audition today by their quarrel. If Miyasaka was more worried about whom Onozuka was sleeping with than the audition, then Miyasaka didn't deserve to win the role.

Then Onozuka smiled slightly, as he wondered if Miyasaka really was jealous, which was a satisfying thought. It was only fair, after all, to have Miyasaka miss him a little after Miyasaka had ignored him in favor of Iwaki so many times. Maybe it was time to reveal the identity of his mystery lover to Miyasaka--he would do it soon after the auditions, he resolved, grinning as he imagined Miyasaka's reaction.

Fujimoto gave him a suspicious look, so Onozuka smiled sweetly at him in return, with his best gallant prince expression, which did nothing to reassure his manager.

"I want you to be on your best behavior today, Onozuka-kun," Fujimoto ordered sternly.

"Aren't I always?" Onozuka asked innocently, and Fujimoto just sighed and shook his head.
